Description

This rarely imaged set of 3 tiny, obscure galaxies is located in the constellation of Aquarius at a declination of +2 degrees. All 3 of these galaxies have interesting structures.

The top galaxy, located 130 million light years away, is NGC 7081. This galaxy spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 40,000 light years. The galaxy appears disturbed, with three primary arms interspersed with several large bright star clusters.

The galaxy closest to image center is UGC 11760. This galaxy is at the same distance as NGC 7081 and is likely interacting with it. This galaxy's structure is really unusual - no center core, but a central bright ring, which itself is surrounded by a bright semi-circular ring. This galaxy is about the same size as the top one.

The bottom galaxy is 2MASXJ21315102+0230455. This galaxy is the largest of the three but is three times further away than the other 2, at a distance of 400 million light years, making it look smaller.

Many other extremely faint distant galaxies can be seen in the background.
