Description

After a number of rather unsuccessful attempts, which had given me an Orion nebula (M42) with strange colors or a burnt core, despite unsuccessful HDR composition attempts, I got to thinking... I took advice from Jean-Baptiste Auroux, who pointed out that my raw HOO stack was not saturated and that HDR composition was useless. So I went back to the drawing board, convinced that the two Antlia HaOIII and SIIHb filters could give very interesting results when composited with an RGB image. Here's the result I obtained by not pushing the sliders too far, to keep the result natural if not completely sharp. The image I'm presenting is a composition comprising an RGB image (60x5s) for 50%, a HOO image (90x120s) for 25% and a SHOHb image (90x60s) for 25%. For the record, this shot was taken with an Askar FRA 500 refractor, an ASI 2600 MC Pro camera and two Antlia 3nm filters (HaOIII and SIIHb). I hope you like it, because M42 is an ultra-classic target, but far from easy...
