Description

Last week was unusually warm here in the Bay Area, with calm air and good seeing. It seemed like an ideal chance to practice some high resolution lunar imaging. I found the arrangement of this trio of craters (Aristotoles, Eudoxus, and Bürg) north of Mare Serenitatis to be rather striking. The Montes Caucasus range is illuminated at the lower left of the image by the grazing incidence sunlight.

This image is a two panel mosaic. At the time of image capture, the moon was approximately 46% illuminated and at an altitude of 47 degrees above the horizon. The camera gain on the ZWO ASI 178M was set to 261, with an exposure time of 15 ms. A total of 10000 images were captured, with the best 35% stacked.
