Description

M41 is an open cluster in Canis Major, located several degrees south of Sirius. With an apparent magnitude around 4.5, this cluster is readily visible to the naked eye in dark sites of Bortle 4 or better. With a common size binocular, M41 can be resolved to some faint stars and a little mist. In larger scopes, M41 looks like a crossbow, with an arrow mounted, ready to fire. This image was taken in Southern Astronomy's Daocheng Glacial Observatory, shot by equipments owned by Gong Miao and controlled by Feng Xin, both of whom do not own an AB account so I can only acknowledge them here. The image is an integration of RGB channels, 1 hour each.
