NGC 2175, the Monkey Head Nebula, is an H II region located in the constellation Orion. It is situated in the vicinity of the open cluster NGC 2174. The nebula gets its name due to its distinctive shape, which resembles the profile of a monkey's head and face.This emission nebula is illuminated by the radiation from young, hot stars within the nebula. The intense ultraviolet radiation from these stars causes the surrounding hydrogen gas to emit light, creating the stunning nebular structure we observe.NGC 2175 is part of the larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, a region of active star formation. The nebula is approximately 6,400 light-years away from Earth.Processing this image turned out to be unexpectedly difficult. I started on Jan 10th thinking that it would be easy since I had a lot of good data and the initial stack image looked very nice. I must have jinxed myself. I immediately discovered that easy processing failed. So I started exploring alternative methods, But I was stalled by a windows update attack which disabled a number of programs including Pixinsight. That took 3 days to fix. Bad words were spoken. Google was exhausted. My antivirus sw was banished.With a freshly healed computer and reinstalled processing program, I confidently resumed exploring alternative processing methods. A summary of this is looking for image extracts that contain the portions that I want to be red (sulfur and hydrogen), gold (Hydrogen), and blue (Oxygen); recombining them; adjusting the colors. Yesterday, Jan 15th,  I discovered a black and white image of a monkey head ghost hiding in a red channel. I thought it would be great to have my image feature the ghost monkey head. It would be a head within a head! This proved to be another dead end rabbit hole.Today, Jan 16th, I stumbled into the final mix. I'd like to believe that I could reproduce it. But probably not.
