Description

This Astrobin Debut Object  is an extragalactic planetary nebula located 65,000 light years away in the constellation of Cetus at a declination of -14 degrees.  This magnitude 16.4 PN spans only 3 arc-seconds in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 1 light year.  Many times I am surprised to find that an object has not appeared on Astrobin before, but I am not surprised in this case.

The discovery of this stellar PN was announced in a 1977 paper by Dr. Boeshaar and Dr. Bond.  This PN is believed to have originated outside of the Milky Way galaxy, in the Sagittarius Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy.  The object is now within our Milky Way, in the former galaxy’s stellar stream.
