Description

M27 (The Dumbbell Nebula), one of my favourites, is a planetary nebula (nebulosity surrounding a white dwarf) at a distance of about 1360 light-years. Because of its brightness and diameter it is easily visible in binoculars or a small telescope, even from a light-polluted location.

My goal for this one was to collect more details around the internal shockwave. An extra is this faint external wave. I’ll definitely go back to it and collect more data to make it even more visible.

Interesting facts about this object:
  • - Very similar to what our sun will become when it dies
  • - Second brightest planetary nebula
  • - "Just" a million years ago there was a star (few times more massive than our Sun) existing in that place

Material collected in July/August so during white nights.
