Description

Since starting in the hobby just over a year ago, pretty much every image I've taken has been at 2000mmm+ focal length - whether that's with my "gateway drug" 8-inch LX90 or my "why did I do this to myself" 12" GSO RCT or my "why didn't I do this earlier" 12.5-inch Planewave CDK - heck even my use of iTelescope has always been about getting up close and personal with objects astronomical.

Until one-day I came across a second-hand Takahashi FSQ-106ED for sale and I thought "let's see what all the fuss is about".

Simply put, I now get it and I'm hooked.

This is my first and only image with the scope so far, the pixel peepers will notice that there's some image tilt that I suspect means I need to adjust the camera angle and, sadly, the objective lens appears to have been eaten by bugs, so it's off to Japan for a new lens and I don't expect I will see it for a year or so based on their current backlog! (the hawk eyed will also see a few hot pixels, due in part to me forgetting that I had changed the camera binning from my usual 2x to 1x given the shorter focal length and my darks don't seem to have processed correctly - I'll have to fix that in post at some later stage).

So, for your enjoyment, I present to you, our near neighbour, In all her narrowband glory, the magnificent Small Magellanic Cloud - hastily thrown together by me.

*** I do all my processing in APP, I am sure if I learned PI or Photoshop I woudl be able to get more from my data! ***
