Description

It’s been a while since I’ve had the Samyang 135mm focal length lens out - which is a shame as it’s a great little wide field scope that can show so many amazing hidden features and objects in space! The field of view in this photo is around 10°. That’s about the same area of the sky coverage if you hold your fist out at arms length.

The bright area on the left of the image are from top to bottom) GUM 14, GUM 16 and GUM 17; while the large whispy area on the right is the Vela Supernova Remnant (SNR) - very popular target for us in the Southern Hemisphere this time of year. The blue colour is from Oiii that was shed from a dying star that went supernova about 11,000 years ago.

This was captured using a colour camera out at our groups dark site just north of Perth where I braved the 44°C heatwave for the night along with @starpointaustralis and some friends. I also took separate data using Ha and Oiii filters to combine for a RGB/Ha/Oiii image.
