Description

C/2020 F3 Comet NEOWISE
The object was discovered by a team using the WISE space telescope under the NEOWISE program on March 27, 2020. It was classified as a comet on March 31 and named after NEOWISE on April 1. It has the systematic designation C/2020 F3, indicating a non-periodic comet which was the third discovered in the second half of March 2020.
Comet NEOWISE made its closest approach to the Sun (perihelion) on July 3, 2020, at a distance of 0.29 AU (43 million km; 27 million mi). This passage through the planetary region increases the comet's orbital period from about 4400 years to about 6700 years. Its closest approach to Earth occurred on July 23, 2020, 01:09 UT, at a distance of 0.69 AU (103 million km; 64 million mi) while located in the constellation of Ursa Major.
In early July, the comet could be seen in the morning sky just above the north-eastern horizon and below Capella. Seen from Earth, the comet was less than 20 degrees from the Sun between June 11 and July 9, 2020.
By early July, Comet NEOWISE had brightened to magnitude 1, far exceeding the brightness attained by previous comets, C/2020 F8 (SWAN), and C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_NEOWISE

------------------------------------

After more than two years I have finally dedicated myself to processing the data that Maurizio acquired since we were able to observe the Neowise comet in our backyard. I only did a previous work for the beautiful coincidence that passed near the Needle Galaxy

Comet Neowise C/2020 F3 and NGC 4565 The Needle Galaxyhttps://www.astrobin.com/9zcp65/F/

The first imaging session with the comet was done using the Newton and the camera in timelapse mode on 2020-07-07 at 4:15am https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea4pGo38vKU

The images presented today are the first frames captured on the beginning of his adventure.

Maurizio continued hunting this comet throughout the month of July 2020 and few days in August 2020, so there will be other images of this beautiful celestial body in the next months as I processes them. I want to do them chronologically so can be seeing how its configuration changes over time.

This first installment is divided into four 'stages' since Maurizio was changing exposure time, ISO and position.

Stage 1 2020-07-09  4:31am 7 frames ISO 400 10''
Stage 2 2020-07-09  4:32am 10 frames ISO 400 6''
Stage 3 2020-07-09  4:34am 14 frames ISO 400 6''
Stage 4 2020-07-09  4:42am 10 frames ISO 200 6''  Crop

This series presented problems for to stack on DSS and Siril as the stars in that part of the sky were almost imperceptible at dawn and therefore the programs were unable to locate the comet in the sky. Also the position jumps did not allow a stack correlation to locate the comet position in the programs even it was pointed the position manually.

However, I was able to use the calibration frames that DSS produced and get the first three images calibrated, but the cream color of the comet observed in the original frames was somewhat faded.

I had to do the stack manually in Photoshop and I took the first frame of each series for the background of the treetop found in the first two images.

In the last image that was not calibrated, the stack was also done manually in Photoshop and cropped,  and a slight greenish coloration can be seen in the comet's nucleus despite the fact that it was the clearest series since dawn was advanced.

In all the images only a little clarity, dehaze and contrast were applied in CamRaw.

Thank you for visiting us and have you all Clear Skies.
