Description

The small plus side to the record heat wave in California this past week, was that those of us living near the San Francisco coast, got some clear and mostly windless nights to get some real imaging time in.  For me, that meant a chance to finally put some hours on my revamped system.  I choose “The Pelican” as I wanted a target with good signal, one I had never imaged before (that I recall), and one with some bright stars to see how the Astronomik MaxFR narrowband filters I started using handled them (pretty darn good!).

Almost 24 hours of data from the qhy268m and it is wonderfully clean.  Really is a step up, IMO, from my QSI690 (which is a pretty great camera).  I need to capture some RGB stars to blend into this to really get it where I want it.  I think I was a bit aggressive in removing the native stars after looking at the image the following day, but I’ll probably leave it as is until I can get natural colored stars in there.  Otherwise I am pretty pleased with this.

Tom
