Approximately 700 years ago, a series of historical events occurred that we can relate to the distance at which these nebulae are located. 1320: The foundation of the Order of the Garter in England by King Edward III. 1325: The founding of the city of Tenochtitlan, which would become the capital of the Aztec Empire under the leadership of the Mexica. 1327: The fall of the Yuan dynasty in China and the beginning of the Ming dynasty under Emperor Hongwu. While these events were happening here on Earth, the lights emitted by these nebulae traveled through space, reaching our eyes in the present.
