M81 & M82 Galaxies

Description

Spring 2012, Galaxies make their appearance! On April 19, 2012, I took this image in the backyard with dark Skies and no Moon. I was pleased with the results. This is an image of (2) popular springtime Galaxies, M81 & M82. The Larger one (M81) is also known as Bode's Galaxy is located 12 million light years away in the constellation Ursa Major or "The Big Dipper". The Smaller "oblong" one (M82) is ...known as the Cigar Galaxy, also located 12 mly away from Earth. The smaller M82 is actually (5) times brighter than our own Milky Way Galaxy. In the center region, there are many glowing hydrogen filaments that give off a reddish color (as seen in my photo). I took a total of (10) sub-exposures and each was (5) minutes long.

Equipment used was: Celestron Nexstar 11 SCT with a Mitty Wedge, Hyperstar III, Starlight Xpress SXVR-M25C with an IDAS Filter, Stellarvue Raptor Scope with a SX Lodestar Guiding Camera, Starizona Remote MicroFocus, Icron Powered USB, Maxim DL 5.0, Starry Night Pro, Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, ADM Mounting Hardware, Sony Vaio Laptop (High Res Screen Graphics), and my Backyard under Dark Skies.
