Description

This distant quasar is located in the lower right corner of the "Coma Cluster - Abell 1656" image I posted. Light from this quasar was generated 6-8 billion years before our Solar System was born.

A quasar is a massive black hole at the core of a growing galaxy that is gobbling up unimaginable amounts of molecular gas and dust. There is so much incoming food that the swirling accretion disk generates enormous amounts of electromagnetic energy that is detectable across billions of light years.

Note: I used only the luminance frames for this image.
