Description

This rich galaxy cluster is located in Hercules and is thought to be roughly 500 million light years distant. To put things in perspective, that is about nine times further than the Virgo cluster.

I had particularly transparent skies for this area last night and attempting a deep shot like this made sense. The brightest member is NGC 6041 at magnitude 14.3.

I like this group because it has so many different galaxy types and because so many of the galaxies are interacting.
