Description

This is a globular cluster of stars. We call it Messier 13 and it is 25,100 light-years away from Earth in the Hercules Constellation. It is about 145 light-years in diameter, and it is composed of several hundred thousand stars. (From Wikipedia)

Globular clusters remain from star forming clouds (nebula). When the stars ignite, their particle output blows away the remaining gas and dust revealing a cluster of shining stars.

The little spiral galaxy to the lower left, NGC 6207, is 46 million light years away though it looks like a neighbor to the cluster.

This image was taken through a homemade 5" F5.5 achromat refractor using an unmodified Canon Rebel t4i. Colors are a little off due to the use of a Bader Semi APO filter which removes violet (that an achromat cannot focus) from the image.
