Description

Located at a distance of approximately 2,900 light-years from Earth, NGC 7822 encompasses a relatively large angular extent of over 3 degrees in the night sky, translating to a physical extent of several hundred light-years. This substantial size is primarily attributed to its role as an active star-forming region. In addition to the emission nebula, NGC 7822 also contains dark interstellar dust clouds. These dusty regions, known as Bok globules, can be found within the nebula and are typically the sites where new stars are actively forming. These regions of denser material serve as nurseries for stellar birth, with gravity acting to pull together gas and dust, eventually leading to the formation of new stars and planetary systems.

Subframes captured during the nights of August 22 and 31 and September 1, 4, 13, 16, and 19, 2023.
