Description

Sh2-261, also known as the Lower's Nebula, is a diffuse emission nebula located in the constellation Monoceros. It is a region of active star formation, characterized by the presence of young, hot stars that ionize the surrounding hydrogen gas, causing it to emit light. The nebula is part of a larger complex of interstellar matter known as the Monoceros OB1 association, which includes several star-forming regions. Sh2-261 is thought to be relatively young, with stars still coalescing from the surrounding gas and dust.
