Description

The Eagle Nebula is really low in the sky seen from 60 degrees north (below 15 degrees at dusk), and there is only a brief time window in the early evening these days when it can be photographed. So, competing against atmospheric distortion, twilight skyglow, and suburban light pollution, I was surprised to see a pretty decent signal coming through in Ha. SII and OIII were much more challenging of course, particularly OIII, so spent most time on that. With a cloudy period coming up I don't think I will be able to capture any more data on M16 from my latitude this year, so here is a close crop of the center of the Nebula with the data I managed to get over the last few days. At least the Pillars are recognizable, which was actually a bit surprising to me. If I ever get to bring my gear to more southerly latitudes I will certainly revisit this amazing target.
