Description

Acquisition made during french event NAT 2023 : Nuits Astronomiques de Touraine

During the event, I was mainly doing some EAA (a little) and some talks (a lot !)
Despite the very low altitude, 19-20° max in my region, M20 was one of my "dream target" 40 years ago so I wanted to try it in astrophoto

The meridian was at the beginning of astronomical dawn, and I could reach M20 for 1:30h each night, between 2:30am and 4:00am
We were lucky to have two clear nights with average seeing so at the end I had 32x14x16x16 x2minutes in LRGB and also 5x5mn in Ha
So after two nights, 3 hours total; I tried to get something out of it in order to have a "NAT 2023 version" of this beautiful nebula.

For the processing, I deliberatly let the outer Ha region with a low stretch : I did not have the signal for that and I like how the faint red glow enhance the central nebula
On the other hand, I push more the reflexion part in blue (even if I would have liked more signal there)

I need to get more B data (for the SNR of the reflexion nebula) and I will see also what I can do with time in Ha for an HaLRGB version

Given the seeing, the acquisition time and the altitude of this target, I am happy with the final result : I can try some very low altitude target and be happy with the result :-)
BlurXTerminator is a great help for that : it helps corrected the shape of the stars which are distorted with the atmospheric refraction.

I hope you will like it !
