Description

The Star Queen! (Also known as the Eagle Nebula (M16)) Last summer I said maybe this year I'll have a bigger telescope and be able to get a more detailed image, well the future is now! She's a big ole queen at 70 Light years wide and 5.5 million years old! One light year is about 6 trillion miles long for reference.. This nebula is a famous one, due to the ‘Pillars of Creation’ made popular by NASAs Hubble telescope in 1995. The pillars, although they seem small in my image, are actually 4-5 light years long. For comparison, the distance of Earth to Pluto is about 0.0006 light years..  so one of these pillars would extend the entire length of our solar system and then some!

This exposure is 5 hours 21min ( 107x180s ) with a #IDASNBZUHS on a #RASA11 captured with #ASI533mc at gain 0 cooled to -10c, #EQ6RPRO #ASIAIR #Celestron #astrophotgraphy #astro #NASA #ZWO #highpointscientific #skywatcher #m16 #starqueen #theeaglenebula #aosny #skyandtelescope
