Description

A few nights back I was looking for a new target as I was...almost finished with collecting subs for my 6 panel mosaic around the Crescent/Tulip area (long overdue because of temperature sensor break on my camera back in July). The California Nebula started to be high enough past midnight to clear my roof line and after a few test shots, I decided to not just take a single panel of the center but to also here, work on a mosaic with 4 panels. And then on the last planed night of capturing panel 4 and a few more for the Crescent mosaic, a sandstorm came through....followed by the full moon. So, while waiting for less bright skies, I decided to process panel 2 of the California Nebula and put it up. The entire mosaic will hopefully follow soon as should the Crescent/Tulip mosaic.

The California Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation Perseus. It's form resembles the State of California. It is located approximately 1000 LY from Earth and covers 2.5° of sky in length. The Nebula was discovered in 1884 by E. E. Barnard.
