Description

So it's no secret that I generally do not get as much integration time as my other friends and colleagues (both those on Instagram and on Astrobin). About an hour and a half has been my max for some time now. The main reason for my shorter integration times involves the fact that my wife and I have a 3 year old who refuses to sit still and who likes to jump into our bed at 6:30 in the morning. While I wouldn't trade these early mornings for anything in the universe, the beauty and sharpness of images that I've observed with 5, 10, and even 24 hours of integration time got the best of me, and I sacrificed some precious sleep to try and get more integration time on NGC2903. As a gorgeous barred spiral galaxy 30 million light years away in the constellation Leo, I figured this was a prime target for added integration time.

My goal was 5 hours and as you can see I fell a bit short; however I did notice that the additional time did allow for marginally better resolution and detail at the center and within the spiral arms. It also allowed me to bring the colors out a bit more which I was super happy about. Now that I've seen the benefit of added integration time, I fear that I've become addicted and will most likely spend the next several weeks imaging a single target... I'm going to get my 5 hours!
