Hello. Today I share with you this image of the Mare Tranquilitatis area where Apollo XI landed in June 1969.
It is an interesting area with many accidents from the Lunar 100 list. Specifically, the Lamont ghost basin, about 75 km in diameter, with number 53 on the list.
Sabine and Ritter with number 38 are a pair of twin craters about 30 km in diameter.
There are several other features, such as the Arago alpha and beta volcanic domes (L32), and Dionysius lightning strikes (I have to look into this one) (L93) that do not fit the frame of this image.
And the ones that really were my goal: the trio of craters, Armstrong of 5 km, Collins and Aldrin of 3 km each. The trio is number 90 of the L100 list, and frankly it has been a personal challenge, if I am not mistaken they are at the resolution limit of my Mak 127. The truth is that I have not forced much processing to be able to get them (although I still have a long way to go, both in capture and processing...).
Obviously its name pays homage to the crew of Apollo XI. I think they are the only contemporaries to have their name on the Moon, though I'm not sure.
Very close to them is the Tranquility Base, where the Eagle landed on the moon. Also nearby are the Surveyor 5 and Ranger 8 probes, sent to collect data for the Apollo project.
The Lunar 100 listing is making me have a great time, but some are more special than others, like this one, at least for me, who was born in '68, I grew up wanting to be an astronaut and wear one of those huge white suits... Like so many kids of my generation, I suppose.

Hola. Hoy comparto con vosotros esta imagen del la zona del Mare Tranquilitatis donde en Junio de 1969 aterrizo el Apollo XI.
Es una zona interesante con bastantes accidentes del listado de Lunar 100. En concreto la cuenca fantasma Lamont de unos 75 km de diámetro, con el numero 53 del listado.
Sabine y Ritter con el numero 38 son un par de cráteres gemelos de unos 30 km de diámetro.
Hay varios accidentes mas, como los domos volcánicos Arago alfa y beta (L32), y los rayos de Dionysius (tengo que investigar este) (L93) que no entran en el encuadre de esta imagen.
Y los que realmente eran mi objetivo: el trio de cráteres, Armstrong de 5 km, Collins y Aldrin de 3 km cada uno. El trio es el numero 90 del listado L100, y francamente ha sido un reto personal, si no me equivoco están en el limite de resolución de mi Mak 127. Lo cierto es que no he forzado mucho el procesado para poder sacarlos (aunque me queda mucho camino por delante, tanto en captura como en el procesado...).
Evidentemente su nombre homenajea a los tripulantes del Apollo XI. Creo que son los únicos contemporáneos que tienen su nombre en la Luna, aunque no estoy seguro.
Muy cerca de ellos esta la Base Tranquilidad, donde alunizó el Eagle. También cerca, están las sondas Surveyor 5 y Ranger 8, enviadas para recopilar datos con vistas al proyecto Apollo.
El listado Lunar 100, me esta haciendo pasar muy buenos momentos, pero algunos son mas especiales que otros, como este mismo, al menos para mi, que nací en el 68, crecí queriendo ser astronauta y llevar uno de esos enormes trajes blancos... como tantos críos de mi generación, supongo.
