Description

I imaged M13 as kind of an after thought. I had spent a few hours on M51, and I wanted to see how my newest scope would do on another target. I tried a few images at 3 minutes, 2 minutes, and 1 minute. The first two images looked blown out so I went with 1 minute. I took 60 images and picked the best 20. Auto guiding was kind of hit and miss with this target so I pick 20 images with the tightest stars.

I have imaged M13 more times than I can count. It is a great object to take photos for beginners and I thought other targets would be just as simple.  Going for faint galaxies later on let me know that there are a whole bunch of worthy targets that take a lot more effort to image. M13 is still one of my favorite objects to see through eyepieces and It looks really good through my 14 inch scope, but a good photo makes it a lot better.

I used my Istar Phantom 140mm f/6.5 scope. I just got it this spring and I really hadn’t had a chance to see what it could do. I used my Sony A7RIII on aps-c mode with a field flattener. So far the scope is impressing me. The fast focal ratio creates some spherical aberration away from center but my field flattener pretty much fixed that issue. So far so good!!!
