Description

Finally, I managed to capture this amazing nebula for 9 nights over 4 months with around 30 hours of exposure. This is the largest exposure time I ever did. This huge nebula is located 2,000 light years from Earth. The red Flying Bat nebula sh2-129 is composed of ionised Hydrogen while the Squid nebula Ou4 is composed of doubly ionised Oxygen to emit the beautiful Blue light. Actually, this nebula is very faint and needs a lot of integration time to reveal the Squid nebula. This nebula is discovered by Amateur French Astrophotographer Nicolas Outters in 2011. I planned to capture 10 minutes exposure subs @ f/2 with RASA 8 which barely showed the Squid structure from Bortle 4 sky class. The processing was a little pain to show this giant Squid. I collected 19 hours of OIII and 10 hours of H-alpha with 30 min of RGB to show stars’ colour. I think, still I need more 10 hours in OIII to show the Squid nicely but I’m happy with what I’ve got. Gear setup: Celestron RASA 8 f/2, iOptron GEM45, ZWO Mini guide scope, ZWO 120MM-S, Antlia ALP-T dual band Filter Subs 50 x 600 sec, Meade Luminance filter 30 x 60sec subs for RGB stars, ZWO 2600MC @ 0, IDAS Highspeed H-alpha 6nm subs 40 x 600, IDAS Highspeed OIII 6nm & Baader Ultra Highspeed 4nm 90 x 600, ZWO 2600MM @ 0. Captured by APT, Stacked in APP and processed on PI & PS.
