Description

A face-on, grand design spiral galaxy in the Virgo Cluster. The spiral arms are blue along their lengths due to large numbers of hot young stars. Red star-forming regions are scattered throughout. The field of view contains several background galaxies, including NGC 4322, NGC 4328, PGC40045, PGC40068, PGC40184, PGC40214, PGC3090632 and PGC3096132.

Captured with a monochrome camera and L,R,G,B filters, spread over six nights; three nights on R,G,B, and three nights on L. Poor seeing for much of the R,G,B exposures, but that is less critical for the color images. Added more exposure time for R,G,B to compensate. Some good seeing for the L exposures, but mostly below average. Happy with the final result, it shows good detail and rich color.
