Description

Nestled evenly between Becrucis and The Coal sack  is one of the highlights of the Deep southern Milky Way. I struggled with the flair from bright stars through this refractor. A continued journey of self improvement .... Check out Dy Crucis Just above BeCrucis, It's the easiest Carbon star in the sky to find. Its blood red hue  against Becrucis's blue is striking .
When he named it  Sir John Herschel described this beautiful Open star cluster as..

"a gorgeous piece of fancy jewelleryThe central star (extremely red) and a most vivid and beautiful cluster of from 50 to 100 stars. Among the larger there are one or two evidently greenish [stars.]; south of the red star is one 13th magnitude [Argenlander magnitudes], also red; and near its one 12th magnitude, bluish… The same red star taken. Several others laid down, of different shades of green.
See here for an account of its history .
