Description

This is a 24.7hr LRGBHO image of the Cats Paw Nebula (NGC 6334), which is an emission nebula and star-formation region located in the constellation Scorpius.    NGC 6334 was discovered by astronomer  John Herschel in 1837, who observed it from the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.  The nebula is located in the Carina-Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way, at a distance of approximately 5500 lyr from the Sun.
The nebula is a high mass filamentary cloud structure spanning ~320 lyr.  In the visible part of the spectrum, it emits mainly in red (from ionized hydrogen atoms) and blue (from oxygen atoms).  [Wikipedia].  Most of the emission is in the H2 channel with some in the OIII seen in the highlight areas.

The data were collected in April-May 2023 by DeepSkyWest in Rio Hurtato, Chile.
