This region is full of reddish dust or IM, and it stands out by three open clusters. In the upper side you get NGC 2660, which according to some information from NASA and Hubble sites, it is a weakly bounded cluster, with a red star, which is a carbon star, post helium burning phase. More details about this in
paper on NGC 2660 Interestingly in that region you find quite an amount of these carbon stars. Then it follows close to the centre, the open cluster IC 2395. Of course this region is still under the nebulosity from the SN remnants.
There is also a peculiar reflection nebula next to the nVela star, the bluish large star next to NGC 2660. It is not clear in this image if it is possible to see it, even that a number of stars are resolved next to nVela. It is Ced 106k.
This region has been also captured by other AB members using NB filters, with gorgeous images. So in this case, the only contribution could be the wider field.
