Description

The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a dwarf satellite galaxy of the Milky Way.
Despite being large (about 10 degrees or 20 full moons in diameter), it was only known in the West through the Age of Exploration.

On new moon nights in dark skies, it looks like a wad of cotton around the south celestial pole.

In this image, its central bar stands out, which can be easily identified with binoculars or small telescopes, in addition to being close to NGC 2070, the Tarantula Nebula, one of the largest star-forming regions in the local group.

It was taken with a lens from 1980, Pentax 6x7 200mm f4, presenting a very good result for the year of manufacture.
