Description

Hickson 68 is a very interesting group of galaxies showing lots of peculiarities, and quite a number of faint background galaxies. The group itself is at a distance of about 100 MLy, Main object is NGC 5350, a barred spiral galaxy of Seyfert type. Other objects of the group are NGC 5353,  5355, and 5358, while NGC 5354, which appears to form a pair with NGC5353 is actually a background galaxy, some10 MLy more distant than the rest of the group. Processing Hickson 68 was a bit of a challenge owing to the V=6.5mag star HD121197, whose halo interfered in particular with the extended parts of NGC5350. Separating the halo from the outer disk of NGC5350  without destroying the latter one and also keeping the small background galaxy as about 12h was not easy, but I'm pretty happy with the result, at least for now.
