Description

Northwestern part of the Sea of Rains (Mare Imbrium) housing the magnificent Gulf of Iris (Sinus Iridum) surrounded by the Jura Range. It was at the southern end of this chain, Cape Heraclides, that Luna 17 deposited in November 1970 a self-propelled Lunakhod 1 vehicle that remotely operated from Earth, exploring the area for a year.
