Over 1,000 light years away sits a huge hydrogen cloud in the sky. The California Nebula (NGC 1499). It’s 60 light years wide!!! I decided to try a wide shot of the area using sulfur , hydrogen, and oxygen filters for a combined Hubble Palette SHO color image. When you get hours of integration on it, It’s a lot bigger that one might realize, much larger than the full moon in the sky; so I am glad I had my 135mm lens to truly capture it all from my backyard. Hope you enjoy this intense hydrogen emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus as much as I did.
The blue in this image is oxygen gas and the yellow is a mixture of hydrogen, and sulfur and and the more orange areas are more hydrogen and nitrogen.
