Description

A very unique sight, Arp 188 - the tadpole galaxy, lies over 400 million light-years away.   The spiral itself gives up some nice detail, and the tail shows some knots of different structure.   The length of the tail is estimated to be on the order of 300K light-years long.

In this view, I've cropped the image pretty tight so that we could have a good look at the tail and spiral structure.   I wanted to keep at least one of the two large galaxies that were in the wider field present.   There are many other much more distant galaxies in the field.
