This is my first somewhat successful attempt to capture IC 1396 and its famed "Elephant's Trunk" -- a large but dim emission nebula in the constellation of Cepheus.
With the field of view of my Fluorostar 91, the trunk itself frames pretty nicely, although I can only capture part of the vast region of nebulosity surrounding the energetic star at the center of the pocket.
This image is a composition of 15 hours and 27 minutes of narrowband data, heavily skewed towards Ha, and mostly captured in small batches over 12 different nights between the end of August and October 30, usually while waiting for some other primary target to clear the trees in my yard. The results were processed with Pixinsight using the
Forax technique of mapping the NB channels in Pixelmath.
