Description

The Soap Bubble nebula, or PN G75.5+1.7, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Cygnus, near the Crescent nebula (NGC 6888). It was discovered by amateur astronomer Dave Jurasevich in 2008.

This is a very faint object, which explains why it wasn't discovered until recently. Look for the soap bubble in the center of the image.

This is a narrowband bi-color image created using Ha and OIII filtered exposures. Total of exposure time of 12 hours, 40min. Image acquired with SBIG ST-8300 monochrome CCD camera through TPO 8" Ritchey-Chretien telescope at 1070mm focal length. Location: Jamestown, NC.
