Description

M100 (NGC4321) is a grand-design spiral galaxy located at 55 million light years from earth and is one of the largest galaxies in the Virgo cluster. Although fairly bright at magnitude 9.3, at just 6' across it presents a fairly small imaging target in a 4" scope. NGC4312 is an edge-on spiral galaxy located at the lower right of the image; other small 13-14th magnitude companion galaxies can also be seen.
