Description

After almost five months of imaging, editing, and waiting. I am really happy to present this image of the newly discovered oxygen arc surrounding the andromeda galaxy. In September I got an email from @Marcel Drechsler about a new project, it was a faint smudge around the andromeda galaxy they had discovered, and needed some follow-up observations to rule out optical errors or pollution. So I pointed my telescope at the spot and started firing off images, and it turns out that this thing was very very real!

I highly encourage you to read Marcel's post and write up about the discovery, there is lots of great information and even some extra details I couldn't manage to pull out of my own image (thanks to my camera starting to break and getting severe banding). I have my own youtube video documenting the process and explaining how the discovery process works, as well as my recommendations for capturing the object here: https://youtu.be/H9sqPHiCypE

Big thanks to @Marcel Drechsler, @Yann SAINTY, and @Xavier STROTTNER for enlisting me to help on this project, it was a huge honor!

Hope y'all enjoy the image!
