Description

Between the constellations of Cygnus and Cepheus, within the limits of Cepheus, there is a huge region of gas and dust, an HII region, which forms an emission nebula.
In addition, there is an open star cluster associated with the nebula and a series of dark nebulosities. The emission nebula glows due to the energy of the bluish star (Σ 2816 or SAO 33626), which ionizes the gas in the nebula,
the dark nebulosities are seen due to their contrast with the emission nebula. IC 1396, is located about 3000 light years away from us, has an extension of several hundred light years and an apparent diameter of more than 3º,
that is, it occupies an area of more than 6 full moons in the sky.
