Description

Yesterday we decided on a whim to go shoot some stars after god knows how long, probably 10/12 months?
This will surely go down as my toughest year for many reasons, but i am so glad to be back on the field

Of course we went with our #1 choice "dark" sky site, the Viticuso Pass (around Bortle 4), and we were lucky to find GREAT, crisp seeing conditions. Sadly the Moon kept pestering us way more than we anticipated and set around 1AM.
My main focus was this wide-field portrait of the "Summer Triangle" chunk of the Milky Way, which is the result of over 3 hours of integration.

This image is also the result of a serendipitous discovery i made a while ago about my IR650 67mm filter. Despite not being as "selective" as an actual Hydrogen-Alpha filter, it cuts off at almost exactly 656nm but costs less than 1/3rd. Although focusing was an absolute nightmare, i think it works great on widefields. How cool is that!
