Description

This is a very interesting Virgo cluster of galaxies also known as Markarian's Chain. It deserves more exposition time, but in this fist attempt got 145s exposition composed by 29 frames with 5 seconds taken in Bortle3-4. The bright giant elliptical galaxy is M86 (NGC 4406). Also present in the image M84 (NGC 4374), NGC 4477, NGC 4473, NGC 4461, NGC 4458, NGC 4438 and NGC 4435.

The pair of interacting galaxies NGC 4438 and NGC 4435 in the center of the image is known as Markarian´s Eyes and is 52 million light-years away. Recent discovery of several filaments of ionized gas (HII or H III region) links NGC 4438 with the large neighboring elliptical galaxy Messier 86 (source Wiki).

The system velocities of the double galaxies and NGC 4406 lie on a straight line and thus form a regular rigidly rotating chain system moving at a rate vs of about 700 km/s away from earth (https://doi.org/10.1002/asna.2113040204)
