Description

NGC 2170 "Angel Nebula"
NGC 2170 or "Angel Nebula" shines blue & light red/pink below and to the left of center. Reflected light from nearby hot stars give it and smaller ones in the field the blue color of reflection nebulae.  Just above NGC 2170 near center is a red emission nebula with dark dust clouds thought to be most likely LBN 999 from the Lynds Bright Nebula Catalog.  All are in the Mon R2 molecular cloud in constellation Monoceros about 2,500 light-years from Earth.  This is a joint project of James Foster and Michael A. Stecker using a Sky-Watcher Quattro 250P (10-inch f/4 Newtonian telescope) from Frazier Park California.
