Description

In the Heart of the Heart Nebula (IC1805 or W4). A diffuse nebula about 7,500 light-years distant from the earth, and belonging to the Constellation Cassiopeia, towards the border with the Giraffe. Within this nebula there are multiple episodes of star formation and a system of small, sparsely concentrated open clusters responsible for the ionization of the nebula. The most notable of these is Melotte 15, which contains some stars about 50 times more massive than the Sun, plus other smaller stars and a microquasar ejected millions of years ago. In the photograph the blue areas represent the ionized oxygen, while the red ones the hydrogen H-alpha line. From this region emerge more than 30 molecular clouds and globules dispersed in the surrounding space.
