With its dividing dust lanes, Sh2-124 bears a resemblance to the Cocoon and Trifid nebulae.  Being dimmer, it is imaged infrequently.  There is very little scientific literature on it.   It is located about 8500 light years away toward the northeast edge of the Cygnus complex.

A faint bubble-like PN is located in the 10 o'clock direction from the bright central nebula at a distance of about 2.5 diameters of the bright region.  It carries the identifier LDu 1 (PNG 094.5-00.8a in the HASH PN database) and was discovered by Pascal Le Dû, a French amateur astronomer.

This image was processed as a Hubble narrowband palette (SHO) with RGB stars.
