Description

The 'Fireworks' galaxy, so-called for the numerous novae that have popped up in it since its discovery, is a relatively small face-on spiral, just 40,000 light years in diameter. Residing in the busy stellar neighborhood between Cygnus and Cepheus, NGC-6946 shines at magnitude 9.6 from just over 22 million light years away.
