Description

Peering into the Zone of Avoidance:
The zone of avoidance is the region of the milky way which blocks out our view of the universe behind due to the exctinction of visible light caused by the dust our of our milky ways band. This region contains a lot of fascinating yet extremely dim "Dark nebulae" which dont emit light of their own and rely solely on background illumination to be seen.
LDN 1355,1357 and 1358 are an example of such nebulae, also collectively known as the helping hand nebula in the Cassiopea constellation.
To the left of the hand is the beautiful reflection nebula, VdB 9 which is illuminated by the blue star SU Cas. Bringing out the delicate wisps of the reflection nebula were a challenge in this image.
There is another reflection nebula, VdB 7 to the bottom left along with a lot of diffuse blue structures floatinf along the dark gas.
This image is our longest integration yet. We focused on bringing out all of the background dust and the final image really gives us an idea of how densely packed the zone of avoidance is, which obstructs our view in visible wavelenghts of galaxies or objects behind.
This image is equivalent to almost a day of collecting light, and that even from the darkest skies of Balochistan!

Captured at Taqwa Space Observatory, Pakistan's only privately owned dark sky observatory (bortle class 1) located in the province of Balochistan.
