Description

After I gained some first experience with my new equipment and the processing of Astrophotos, I finally started my first major Astro project. For this, I used every cloud gap and clear night in July and August to collect light from my garden in a Bortle 4-5 area.

I used a color camera with a DNB filter for the acquisition. And since I like the strong red colors of the DNB image as well as the Hubble palette, I combined both DNB and HOO variants into one image. For the stars, I used two hours of RGB data. In total, I spent about seven evenings developing an optimal workflow for the image and finally processing it.

When I checked the integrated data I discovered a faint OIII area to the right of the Heart Nebula which was unknown to me till then. After a short research, I found out that this nebula was already discovered two years ago by Marcel Drechsler and Xavier Strottner and is called "Victor's nebula" or StDr 61.

I hope you like the photo. Any critique or feedback is much appreciated :-)
