Description

The Tulip nebula is another gem to be found in the constellation Cygnus.   The faint blue arc above the tulip and to the right is the bow shock from Cygnus X-1, a massive X-ray emitter and thought to be a black hole.    The bow shock is caused by relativistic jets being emitted from the black hole's accretion disk as it sucks matter away from a nearby star (HDE 226868).     Cygnus X-1 is one of the first known black holes.

This was shot over 4 sessions from my backyard as I dodged the local marine layer.     Final image is drizzled and cropped the original widefield version, which is neat field with many of Lynd's bright and dark nebula.  (See annotated version)
