Description

Data from TelescopeLive.

This stellar nursery lies at a relatively close 5,500 light years away. It's massive amounts of hydrogen gas have given birth to stars nearly ten times the mass of the sun over the course of the last few millions of years. These massive stars will live a hard and fast life, burning through their stellar fuel at an accelerated rate before ending their brief lives in a supernova explosion that will outshine our entire galaxy. The stars corpses will become a neutron stars or black holes.

The bright blue object visible on the full-size image is the Bug Nebula. It is about 4,000 light years away and is a star in its death throws, expelling its atmosphere at over 600km/s or 1.3 million miles per hour.

I processed this image to preserve the green of the Ha signal in SHO.
